Mr. Big's/ Snow Day

I forgot to post some pictures from when my parents took us to Mr. Big's! Mr. Big's is a Dave & Buster's type place that has cosmic bowling, a bar, skating, billiards and the like. We really enjoyed ourselves there. Dad won the first game, and I was close behind in second. The last game Grant won and I was at the bottom. :-( Oh well, it was $1 Sunday and shoes were cheap, so it was a budget friendly outing. Thanks for the great bowling tips and great time Mom and Dad!

Most recently, I just had to post some pictures from TODAY! This morning we woke up around 8am, and it had just started snowing. After a shower we noticed it had already accumulated to about two inches! Then, we went out to get groceries cause we had nothing left in our house to eat. By the time we got out the door it was near blizzard conditions: pouring snow, blowing sideways, sight distance of about 100 ft, and roads full of snow. So far we have about a foot and a half, and it's not supposed to let up until tomorrow at noon!

Luckily, we just bought our new car yesterday! The new land rover (sneak peak picture!) and it's great 4WD was fantastic! Grant dubbed the car "the beast" since it drove through the snow so effortlessly. Seriously, if we had gone out in the Saturn, we would have been stuck over and over again. So it was really nice to get out, see the pretty snow, and finally bring some food home.

When we got home we put on some 8 can soup and corn bread that hit the spot on this cold day. We watched Braveheart and cleaned the house a little bit, but after a while we were getting antsy again. Thus, we took a quick tour of the neighborhood, which was quite beautiful as you can see.

Now we're just enjoying hot chocolate, about to light the fireplace, and will watch The Office and March Madness in the coziness of our favorite quilt! :-) Happy lasting winter to everyone!

Crafts, Crafts, Crafts

Wow! Isn't this a wonderful apron. My dear sweet daughter made it for me. She is trying so hard in step out of her comfort zone and learn a new craft each month. I feel so honored that she made this for her mother. (Sniff, sniff, etc) The colors and style are just perfect for me. I love it!
(PS. Thanks also goes to Kristin & Alisa for their encouragement and sewing machine)

Keep it up Britt!!!!!

San Diego & Denver Vacation

Greg and I had a wonderful vacation to San Diego & Denver. We stayed so busy and saw so many neat things. We arrived in San Diego on Sunday. Then on Monday (am) we really hit it. We went to the San Diego Zoo which I had heard was the best in USA. Well, I agree! You can see the zoo one of three ways. (By double decker bus, walking, or the sky lift). It was wonderful!

Then we were off to see the USS Midway! What a ship!!!! It was so wonderful seeing and being on a ship that had fought in WWII & Desert Storm. It is HUGH!
Then we were exhausted for the day!

Tuesday, we were off to President Reagan's Library. Seeing and remembering everything that he did for our country was amazing. Going into Air Force One was so awesome. Sorry no pics on the interior (not allowed).

Wednesday was our last day in San Diego so we went to Coronado Island and to the Pacific Ocean.
I've never dipped my toe in the Pacific so it was so exciting to me. Coronado Island is where Marilyn Monroe shot one of her movies.

Then it was off to Denver to surprise Brittany by coming in a day early. Grant was in on the surprise. We arrived about 9pm at the apartment. By texting Grant periodically, he helped us quietly come in the patio doors while Britt was in another room. We came in an sat on the couch. She walked in the room and gasped. It was so funny to see her face.

They took us to eat one night to a Mexican restaurant called "Casa Bonita" It was a very unique restaurant. You go through a line and order your meal. Then you are taken to your table. You will then be entertained by actors doing skits on top of a 2 story waterfall. Of course, someone would end up diving into the water. (Warm) It was something really fun for us all.

Then Greg and I went to
"Red Rocks" check them out at www.redrocksonline.com This is something that I had no idea about (I'm the only one in the world) . It is a natural made arrangements of red rocks that form a ampitheater. Of course, man came in and organized it with seating and stage area. The acoustics in it is wonderful. Apparently many artists strive to play at Red Rocks. I would love to go back and see a concert.

Then off to Golden with Brittany and Grant on Saturday. What is Golden known for? The home of Coors Beer. Yes, we went to see how the beer was made. It was very interesting!

So sorry for such a long blog but many of you had asked about our trip. So enjoy and if you get a chance go to San Diego and visit some of these sites. I'm sure Brittany and Grant would love to have you visit them as well.

"Get your verse on" ~~Wild Olive

I have stumbled across the most amazing site! I wanted to share it with you guys, well...at least for those of you who might wear a t-shirt. Some ladies have started a t-shirt business with scriptures on them and they are VERY HIP!!! i love the fact that they are using such a cool way to spread the word of God to the world! when you get a moment, check it out. you may not be the kind of girl to wear them but i bet you know someone who would...

also, it is neat to know that two other "family members" (in Christ) are stepping out in faith in this bleak economy. on their blog they talk about how they who sustains them, not wall street or the government but God and they are relying on Him! THAT IS WHAT I AM DOING!!! isn't it cool to know we have a common bond in Christ :D gets me excited!!!!

Kim's pizza

Gaylon and I were able to get away this weekend, thanks in part to his teaching job. He and the other teachers with Daymar College had a meeting in Owensboro, KY on Friday, they paid for the room and I got to tag along! We decided to go onto to Nashville Saturday. We did a little shopping and got to have a nice dinner with just the two of us (which doesn't happen often) We stayed with Kim and had a wonderful time staying in her ultra cool home!!! She even surprised us by cooking her homemade pizza (sauce too). It was absolutely wonderful and I couldn't believe my eyes!!! I told her I had never seen her refrigerator so stocked before :)
She has become quite the cook lately so I thougth I would show off her skills to you all.

Here she is rolling out her HOMEMADE dough (i am so impressed) with a glass vase she has. Don't worry...mom is giving her grandma's rolling pin.

And here she is adding her HOMEMADE sauce (Aunt Pat, you would be so proud!!!) that is very very yummy!!! ~~notice the sauce in the plastic container in the first picture. it even looks like grandmommie's container...hmmmm.
(will be making it as soon as my head feels like it will stay attached to my body when i get up from the bed)

and now she is adding fresh ingredients....let me tell you, fresh makes a pizza!
notice that she is totally ok with her pizza NOT being round...i told her i was making it much harder than it had to be, therefore, i will no longer stress over a round pizza or not!

now, the trick is to put it on parchment paper (to keep from sticking) and then put it on a preheated cast iron pizza round (500 degrees) which she did and let it cook for 5 minutes and then added the cheese and let it continue cooking for 3 more minutes.

Let me just say she has a way with pizza! It was soooooo good and I can't wait to make it myself. Especially after seeing how easy it truly is. She can email you the recipe :)

Uncle Mayhew's legacy

Dad found this scribble sheet of Uncle Mayhew's and fortunately realized what a treasure it was several years ago. I'm especially fond of it because I like to do calligraphy. Thought all might like to see it. If you look carefully, you can see his signature, "Mayhew Peery." (For those of you out there that may not know, Mayhew was Vernon, Erline and Elsie's brother, the youngest of the four Peery's)
